Literature Text

'Remember your mortality.'
Isn't that what we all need to do?
No one is invincible, you know.
We cannot survive forever.
What if we could, however?
Would you?
What would you do?

'Remember you must die.'
Everything, from an elephant to a fly.
No matter what it is,
Everything dies after it lives.
Some die too soon,
Some pass late afternoon.

'Remember you will die.'
Make the most of what life you have.
Don't waste it and cut it in half.
The depression you may have at some point will fade,
So live to see another day.
Don't mope about:
Run freely and shout!

'Memento Mori.'
It's everywhere, that story.
Someone dies, another lives to see
Their life gone by. Then they're history.
If you remember your own mortality,
That you will and must die,
You'll be motivated to see what I mean.
Don't cut your life short and run away from us
Nor try to find your own incubus.
If you live and see it through every day,
I'll see you again sometime next May.
Enjoy life for what it is and what you've got,
Don't die young and then be forgot.
Use your time wisely because the clock is ticking,
Take nothing for granted and keep on living.
Exactly what the poem says. I know this is a more serious one, but I finally got inspired to write another one. This is just off the bat, so excuse any rhyming words that are ending the same way (i.e. got + forgot).
We need to remember that our time is limited, so we should make use of it and not do anything we don't want to. Don't commit suicide just because of someone else dying: you'll just add more pain to your friends' and family's sufferings. Stay alive, fight to see the next day, and you'll love what you see. No matter who you are or what you're like, there's never a good reason for suicide. I myself used to think thoughts about that a lot, but I stopped because I realized that my dark feelings were all better when my friends cheered me up. Also be careful of who you surround yourself with. If they're fake friends, they'll try to sympathize with you and mourn along side you. If they're good, or even best friends, they'll try to make you feel better, to see the positive side of things. Never allow anyone to push you around. Your time is limited, as I aforementioned. Use your time, your LIFE, however you see fit! Don't waste it coping with a loss, or sitting at a desk, being shoved and ordered around by others "higher-ranked" than you. You are your own person. Be independent, and struggle through your own problems with your head held high. Don't lose faith in yourself. If you do, tell yourself 'Memento Mori'. Find a way out of a sticky situation. You can do it. Just live, be free, ENJOY your life! Don't hate what you've done! Go along with your life, doing as you please with it. We all die sometime. The question 'when' doesn't matter. If you've enjoyed every day of your life, there's no need to ask yourself when you'll be passing. Just as long as you're satisfied with yourself and happy overall, you'll find you won't mind when you go: just so long as you're happy. No one wants to die in despair. Accept death when it comes calling, and end your suffering. Don't call Death over like the pizza man. Keep Death out of you until you know you're ready and your time's up. Never force it upon yourself. If you're still alive, it means you can still accomplish great things! It means that you still have a purpose. It means that you don't have to die yet. It means that that's one more day that you have to enjoy yourself. If you're still alive, you're still needed for support. It means that, no matter what depressing things happened today, that it will get better as time goes on and your willpower is enough to dis-spell the sadness. Win through Death to another day. Think that there's nothing left in the world for you to enjoy? Go to a hill or some tall structure overlooking nature just before dawn. You'll see. Life is beautiful. Don't waste it.

It is important to make the most of your life, and I really like the cadence of "Momento Mori". The message is a bit morose, though, in that it has the reader constantly thinking about death. In that way it seems to take the focus off of life and joy.
